Word Art Wednesday

I want to send my sweet Delta Dear this card who has been in the hospital going on a month.  This encouraging scripture is from Word Art Wednesday and I'm also entering it in Twist of Faith challenge #51 Animals.  It's the weekend and I'm ready for my 12 hour crop to support Ovarian Cancer. Looking forward to seeing all my sisters that use to meet at Archivers. So sad that they closed in Memphis, but we should never give up the habit of meeting together.

Recipe
Webster's paper
Squigglefly digi
Bic Mark -it markers
Cuttlebug embossing folder
Martha Stewart edge punch
Quickutz flourish
Want2scrap pearls

Tried different angles, but it's hard to see the sparkly fluff under his ears.

Praying for you

Hello I’m bringing this monochromatic card to you today.  Hope it warms your heart.  I was inspired by Digi Sketch challenge to use their sketch and make my own flowers if I chose to.  You know I did huh?  I love challenges!  It makes it more exciting to create.  I found the gold tulle in my stash.  Then I fold, cut and spread out the material.  The leopard stone was in my mix and match jewelry.  I took the August Diva Dare again at Verve Stamps and layered my card with embossed folders and added my flowers, lace, fiber and some hardware.  Why hardware?  Shopping Our Stash asked for oldest hardware.  No more hoarding for me!  While using Verve’s sweet sentiment I went right over to Word Art Wednesday and posted, because I thought this card was indeed Uplifting.

It is my prayer that God will pour you out a blessing that you won’t have room to receive.  He already knows your heart and desires.   I Love you blog family and I’m praying for you!

For Me?

Over at Crafty Sentiments they are asking you to make it Colorful. So I grabbed one of their cute digital images and went for the DCWV 6x12 Garden Stash. Since I used flowers, an image and distressing, I played along with Creative Creation BINGO challenge.  This card was inspired by Tuesday Morning Sketches Sketch #212.  Tammy's Scrapin Corner was looking for images with food.  ABC Challenges wants to see layers so I used several patterns from this Colorful stash.  Can’t you tell I had a blast?!  And guess what I had afterwards?  A scoop of ice cream!

It’s my birthday!

I’ve been so busy celebrating I forgot to post this morning.  It’s my 52nd birthday and 3rd blog anniversary!  I have two projects to share.  Both are relaxing:  a card and ATC.  I had planned to have a pamper day with MOM but had too much on my schedule.  By the way, thank you SO much for the LOVE you left on my mother’s birthday.  She read every comment and said, “I’m touched”!  We were both born in August so we tend to share in our celebration.

MOJO Monday 306

I've been wanting to play along for a while at MOJO Monday and decided to take on sketch 306.  There is an August Diva Dare over at Verves Stamps that ask you to pile it on and make sure we use a Verve product.  I definitely piled it on with lots of layers using My Minds Eye....gotta love those patterns.  The doily was inked in gold.  I called to check on one of my friends I haven't heard from in a while.  She said she was down and out.  I prayed for her and asked her to look up and will send this card her way!

Happy 75th Birthday Mama Minnie

I celebrate my mother today, affectionately known as Mama Minnie by me and many of the children she’s nurtured.  She has a heart of gold and children untold to have only birthed two (my brother Patrick and me) of her own and now the love of her life her grandson (PJ)!  Mama Minnie is indeed a blessing; a God fearing woman who not talks the talk, but walks the walk.   She has taught and shown me the values of good work ethics having worked 40 years at Cleo Wrap.

Recipe ingredients for Mom's card:
My Minds Eye paper
TLC sentiment
Spectrum Noir markers
Stampin Up banner punch
Hancock Fabrics lace
Star fiber - Mama Minnie's stash

After their closing, Mama Minnie didn’t retire.  She loves to help others and inquired one day about being a greeter at Kroger. We got on the computer one Saturday and she was called for an interview the next week.  Kroger hired her as a florist. She had lots of experience with silk flowers (She still does wedding & Christmas decors) and now she is working with live flowers and has loyal customers.  Look at God!  You are never too old to learn.  Mama Minnie still finds time to visit the nursing home, assist in our church feeding ministry and take care of everyone else.  She tells me jokingly, I’m not made out of what she is made out of.  (I can't keep up with her lol)  It is my prayer that she makes it over 100.

I love to write poetry in my past time.  This poem is included in the inside of her card. I want to give her the roses while she lives.

M other you are a blessing and I’m thankful to God for letting you see 75 in good health

A nd the abundance of joy from family, friends and faith in Him is the greatest wealth
M any memories are fond and dear to my heart growing up into the young lady that I am
A nd even when your answer was no I knew it was only because you care; you’re sweet as a lamb
M any talents I’ve inherited from you and I’m grateful for your gift of creativity
I  will always refer to one of your favorite scriptures I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me
N o one can replace you Mama Minnie and I cherish our quality time each week
N urturing, timeliness, and spirit-filled are just some of the qualities that make you unique
I  just want you to continue to let your light so shine and stay active as you are
E mbrace the love within.  Know that I appreciate you and you will always be my Shining Star.

Back to School

The children headed Back to School this week.  I am so thankful for the wonderful teachers in my life, who truly had a passion for teaching.   We were eager to learn and grow.  There was no mention of guns and other weapons.  We had prayer in school and the world was a better place. That's why we have to stay prayed up. I grabbed this cute little digital by Robert Jackson. One of my customers wanted a card to give to her child's teacher.  When I saw the sketch for Twist of Faith I knew I wanted to make a gate card.

Crafty Baby Shower skills

I promised to share my crafty baby shower skills with you that was made for the coming of my sweet nephew.  Patrick Jr arrived 8lb and 9oz.  We're going to call him PJ for short since his father is now a Sr.  This was my first time making the motor cycle.  I've seen lots of photos for tricycles, but I  wanted to do my own creation.  It's all by trial and error, but I was pleased with it.  The teddy bear was my brothers and I wanted to use it as my cyclist.

Here's a close up of the horn....beep beep.  I used Tim Holtz mini paper rosette die and used Creative Memories cutting tool to make the circle.  I added eyelets, which is my seldom used embellishment that I have So many of.  The steering wheel is a blanklet (lol that almost look like an animal) and I added baby bear fibers for the streamers.  The light is a mini sippie cup. Nike socks were added to the end of the handle bars for knobs.

Here's a side view of the diapers. It was easy. I used dried up wipers from my scrapbooking stash and put them in the middle of the toilet roll.  I rolled up the diapers individually and then put some on the top to give it a smooth feel and wrapped the yellow ribbon around it. They are attached with a heavy duty ribbon. It looks confusing so maybe next time I should do a tutorial huh? lol
Back up rear view...Baby boy on board. I added yellow instead of blue to give it a little color. I probably would have added a blue strip on top thinking back.  I put the burping cloth on the top of the diapers and the front is the matching bib.

This idea of a baby carriage was inspired by Pinterest. When I find the site I will come back and update the post to give them credit. I carved the opening of the watermelon and took a cantaloupe and made the head by taking off all the hull. I put grapes for eyes....Don't know why I didn't put the red grapes instead of the green. The nose is from the cantaloupe and a real pacifier for the mouth. My mother cut up the fruit and she cut the pineapple in half and placed a few more pieces of fruit in there.
Toothpick holders were added to the tuna sandwiches. It's a variety of punches from Creative Memories circles & hearts and Martha Stewart little elephant (love that punch).
The 'Onesie Wisdom' clothes line was fun to embellish.  I drew a pattern and cut them out. I asked the guest to put some words of wisdom for Father-to-be.  I hung them in PJ's room and my brother reads them often.
Most of them were embellished and some on pattern paper. Paper and embellies came from my stash. That's what make these projects so special is that I didn't have to go to a store to purchase anything.  Mmm well the diapers, but everything else came from my stash...Yes including the clothespins. I used acrylic pastels and painted the clothes pins blue, yellow and green to give them a little color.  They were hung on light blue tulle.
We tied ribbon around the bottles, which were the shower favorites for the guest.  They turned out great.  The bottle read, "PJ A Blessing, A Gift From Above, A Precious Angel for Grandma Minnie To Love".  When my mother read that her smile was So bright.  She's mothered a lot of children, (affectionately known as Mama Minnie), but to have her very own grandchild is a blessing that she treasures the most.

And of course the first card  gave me inspiration for the color scheme. It's a digi by Robert Jackson.  The rest of them were done similiar to the second card.  It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed every moment.  Now off to make the thank you cards and a picture of  baby PJ will be inserted.  He's so adorable and such a good baby.

Thank you for letting me share my crafty baby shower skills with you.  I am enjoying my baby nephew.  He is truly a blessing from God.  Can't wait to make the mini album.  Be blessed!

Quality Time

Just spent a great time in Nashville, TN with my beautiful week old nephew.  It was hard to come home, but I look forward to seeing him again.  I had to get in my craft room this morning and play before I went to work, which brings you to this card.  I'm joining Twist of Faith challenge for children. I remember the days when I would jump rope, double dutch and other outdoor activities.  Life was sweet and still is!  After all, I have to stay in shape to keep up with my 74 year old mother.  She's amazing.  As the card reads, 'Too much of a good thing can be Wonderful'.  Sometimes it's the little things we take for granted.  Even as adults we should embrace the little things and enjoy life.  Stay active!!!!

Welcome August

Join Scraps of Color this month for our sketch challenge.  I'm sure you've taken lots of photos over the summer and need a little MOJO.  We have just the sketch for you by Tiare Smith.  It's screaming summer time.  So mosey on over to our site here and you will see the Design Team's take on the sketch.  They are all different and scream summertime!  I was told it might be a little something for you.   Here's my take on the sketch entitled 'SMILE'. What a difference seven years make.  The 5x7 was taken in 2006 with my straight hair and the silhouette was taken this year with my natural hair after the 'BIG' cut.
